As a Sunday school class, we meet on Sunday mornings and discuss modern topics and scriptures from the Bible. We try to relate stories from the Bible to our daily lives. In addition to our Sunday school studies, we also meet regularly for other non-religious gatherings such as pool parties, movie and game nights, go out to lunch or dinner, etc. These meetings are a great way to get to know the fellow class members on a personal, informal level. We try to plan activities that appeal to everyone and are at a time of year that members are available to schedule around their school or work commitments.
Some of the activities we have done:
Kite flying and having a Picnic at the park
Movie night/Board game/Card game night
Swimming and BBQ during the summer
Going out to Lunch or Dinner together
Church Ski trip if funds/budget permits
Road trip to at the beginning of Summer
Ugly Christmas sweater gift exchange
Mission Trip work/Community service
Mission Work:
We also participate in Mission work and outreach opportunities. Since 2007, our Sunday school class has teamed up with UMCOR and the city of Slidell, Louisiana to organize rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. In 2010 the contract with UMCOR expired, but we still try to team up with local rebuilding groups in order to continue our work there. Each year, about a dozen members of our class travel to various locations to aid in rebuilding and mission efforts. Our impact has made a difference in the lives of people affected by the past disasters on the Gulf Coast, and for other peoples that may need our help in every-day Community Service work. We have also organized local outreach efforts like the "Soles for Souls" project. We reached out to the congregation and were able to collect a multitude of new or lightly used shoes to donate to local charity or service organizations within Arlington. And we participate in the on-going Canned Food drive at St Barnabas.
